Since we're winding down to the end of the school year, a lot of us are doing test review, study time, and project time. If you have any down time and need to engage the restless, try these Scrabble game variations I found at HappyChyck's blog:
Theme Scrabble: Students can only make words related to a single topic such as school, animals, or a topic covered in class.
Proper Scrabble: Students use only proper nouns.
Way to Start: All tiles passed out, and the person who has a word with a z ready to play starts the game
Stuck: A player can trade rack of tiles with another player at any time if an agreement is reached
Speed Scrabble: When all players have 7 tiles, all players turn over their tiles and begin making words, attempting to use all of their letters in a single crossword layout. The players boards do not interact in any way. It is okay to disassemble all or part of your crossword to make new word configurations at any time. When one player has used all of their letters in complete words that cross each other, with no letters left over that player calls out "Take Two!" See more directions here.
